Gokyo Lake and Everest Base Camp Trekking Overview
The extended version of Everest Base Camp Trek, Everest via Gokyo Lakes Trek is one of the greatest trekking routes in Nepal Himalayas. The extension of Everest Base Camp with the stunning Gokyo Valley and the Cho-La pass puts Gokyo Lakes trek above all in the bucket list. Gokyo to Everest Base Camp trek is known for its package of great adventure and thrills. The trek passes through a series of emerald lakes crossing Cho La (5420 Mtr) that leads to picturesque landmarks of the Khumbu region, local friendly and kind sherpas, vibrant monasteries all the way up to the mighty and dignified Everest Base Camp.

Gokyo-Everest Base camp trek demands good physical shape: you must be able to walk for 6 – 7 hours a day on rugged mountain terrain. Gokyo Lake and Everest Base Camp Trekking Itinerary
On reaching Kathmandu via various respective airlines, walk to airport terminal exit, here our guide and staff receive you with a warm greeting and then transfer into car or coach (depending upon group size) for the short drive into the heart of Kathmandu city.
On reaching your hotel check into your rooms after rest and refreshment join in the main hall or lobby with other members of Gokyo Lake & Everest Base Camp Trekking for a briefing of treks with do's and don'ts.
Morning activities start after breakfast, where our city guide will accompany you to interesting World Heritage Sites in our wonderful sightseeing tour, which helps you to gain knowledge regarding local culture and traditional life of Nepalese people as it was for many past centuries.
Tour leads around Kathmandu Durbar Square teemed with local life around historical sites and monuments, then heading due west at Swayambhunath Stupa (popularly known as Monkey Temple where large numbers of monkeys found around).
Morning transfer to the domestic airport as per your flight time for a short panoramic flight to land at Lukla, getting into a smaller aircraft (Twin Otter or Dornier) with 30 minutes on air with great views of Himalayan peaks includes Mt. Everest.
On reaching at Lukla on its unique airstrip known as Tenzing - Hillary airport, from here a slow start with few hours of walks downhill passing many Sherpa farm villages and well-tended crops and vegetable fields and terraces with views of Kwangde and Kusum Kanguru peaks.
After 3-4 hours on the first day walks reaching our overnight stop in a nice lodge at Phakding, transfer into your rooms with sound of glacial Dudh Kosi River nearby.
Today a long day to reach Namche Bazaar, starting with the gradual walk following the river upstream and crossing few bridges to reach Sagarmatha National Park entrance near Monjo village.
Sagarmatha for Everest in Nepalese and Sherpa call Chomolungma in both languages means 'Great Mother' from here a pleasant walk on the river bed and then climb for few hours into the forested trail with views of snow-capped peaks, as the walk reaches you at exciting town and village at Namche Bazaar.
A rest and a free day at Namche Bazaar for proper and necessary acclimatization at this great height of above 3,440 m high before heading higher ground, at Namche spend the day with a scenic hike around and browsing the streets and shops, Namche holds a colorful and busy Saturday Market every week.
After an enjoyable time with rest days at Namche Bazaar, the morning starts with uphill for a short time and then walking on the gradual winding path to Shanasa village.
From here our route diverts away from main Everest base camp trail heading with a climb on quiet trails uphill towards Gokyo Lake.
As climbs start on steep up to Mong small village at 3,973 m high, located on a high ridge facing views of surrounding snow-capped mountain views, from here downhill to Dudh Kosi River to reach at Phortse Thanghka for lunch.
Morning walk from Dole with a climb along a side of the valley, where rhododendron forest fades for small bushes of juniper, walk gains altitude slowly.
Walking then on a level path for an hour to Lhabarma Kharka and Luza at 4,390 m high and then skirting around a ridge walking downhill to reach Machherma village.
From Machherma, our journey continues to reach third Lake of Gokyo, the walk follows a scenic path to Pangka, a small area and then following one of the glacial-fed rivers which flows from Ngozumba Glacier and Mt. Cho-Oyu.
The walk leads to a climb by the side of a glacier, passing at first Lake and then second Lake, to reach third biggest Lake called Dudh Pokhari or Gokyo Lake.
Around Gokyo Lake, with many good lodges facing grand view of the Lake with the world's 6th highest Mt. Cho-Oyu and other range of peaks.
Early morning hike up to Gokyo Ri, a scenic hilltop at 5,357m for wide panorama facing views of Mt. Cho Oyo, Gyachung Kang, Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Cholatse, Taweche and far as to
Mt. Makalu towards the east.
After a grand view from Gokyo Ri, descend back to Gokyo for breakfast and lunch with the rest of the afternoon free at leisure or take a short walk of a few hours.
With leisure time with grand views at Gokyo, today a short walk to a small place at Dragnak often pronounced as Thangnag also, located beneath Chugyuma or Cho-la (Tsho) pass and at the foot of Ngozumba glacier.
Starting early morning leading to a steep climb towards Cho-la pass often spelled as Tsho or called Chugyuma.
After a strenuous steep climb of nearly four hours, reaching at the top of a pass above 5,368 m high, offering close views of Cholatse and Nirekha peaks, and then descend to a small hidden valley at Dzongla for an overnight stop.
After breakfast, the walk follows to a higher ridge and then on the gradual path to reaching above Thugla often spelled as Dughla, where massive Khumbu melts into the raging icy river.
From above Thugla with rest, walk leads to a lateral moraine and stone memorials and then to Lobuche for an overnight stop, a place with several good lodges, while on walk views of Lobuche Peaks, Khumbutse, Lingtren, Pumori within Mahalnagar Himal range.
Today walk leads to another highlight of the adventure reaching Everest Base Camp, walk carries on for few hours with a short steep climb in between over glacier and moraine, reaching at Gorakshep, beneath the lofty peak of Pumori and Kalapathar.
The walk continues towards Everest Base Camp over moraine and ice to reach base camp, here enjoy the view of tumbling and notorious Khumbu Ice Fall and glaciers.
Morning a steep uphill hike to reach on top of Kalapathar at 5,545 meters, the highest point of the adventure with fabulous and unique views of mountains includes Mt. Everest at its closest.
After a great thrill with sweeping views descend back to Gorakshep and continue to walk up to Thugla, from here on a downhill to Pheriche within the windy valley.
A pleasant walk leads you to Pheriche for overnight stop within a scenic valley with many good lodges includes a health post of HRA (Himalayan Rescue Association).
Walk leads with grand views heading to a river and then over a bridge with a short climb and then on the downhill to Somare and Pangboche villages, after the bridge back into the green with tall lines as the climb leads at beautiful Tangboche Monastery located on a small plateau.
At Thyangboche enjoy marvelous views of Mt. Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Kangtenga, Tharmarserku, Kwangde with magnificent Mt. Amadablam, an afternoon with time to visit its interesting monastery and observe monks and priest on prayer.
From here heading towards a small place at Kyanjinma, an hour before Namche Bazaar for an overnight stop.
From this isolated and peaceful spot heading back to Namche Bazaar and then downhill to Dudh Kosi to reach at Sagarmatha entrance and exit gate to reach at Monjo village for overnight after a pleasant day walk.
Our last day walk of this great adventure, morning leads on the gradual trail crossing a long bridge to reach Phakding, and then on the way to Lukla with few ups and downhill with last and final climb of an hour to reach at Lukla for last overnight stop in Khumbu and Everest region.
Morning as per flight time transfer to Lukla terminal building, then board in a small aircraft for an exciting half hour flight to reach back into hustle and bustle city life of Kathmandu.
Last day in amazing Nepal the country of Himalaya wonders, depart from the hotel as per your international flight.
