The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is a 10-day spiritual sojourn to the holy Mount Kailash in Tibet. The tour route starts with an overland journey from Kathmandu to the Nepal-Tibet border either via Dhunche or Syabrubesi or Timure. After crossing over to Tibet at Rasuwagadhi and completing the necessary immigration formalities, devotees are driven to Kerung County and then Saga, all the time acclimatizing slowly.

Kailash Mansarovar Yatra- 10 Days Overview

Kailash Mansarovar Yatra 2025 takes travellers to Mount Kailash (6,638m) which is deeply sacred to the Hindus, Buddhists, Jains, and followers of Bon. It's considered the abode of Lord Shiva or Buddha Demchok while he is in deep meditation. Also, it is in close proximity to the origin points of four rivers in Asia – the Brahmaputra, Sutlej, Indus, and Karnali (a tributary of the Ganges).

In terms of height, Mt. Kailash might not be as high and mighty as some other famous peaks in this region, but never a mountaineer or a climber could summit this peak. Therefore, Kailash yatra is the ultimate journey to the "center of the universe." Many mountaineers have tried and failed to reach its summit, but local belief says that only those free from sin will reach its peak.

The trek (or Kora/Parikrama) around Mount Kailash generally takes three days for Foreigners whereas for the Local Tibetan people it only takes one day. You will be trekking 52 km in total. On day one of the Kailash Yatra 2025 Parikrama, you will start your trek from Darchen, 4650 meters, and head towards Dirapuk, 4860 meters, which is a modest walk of about 12 km, taking approximately 5-6 hours. En route, you get the first Darshan on the North face of Mount Kailash.

Day two of Kora on the Mount Kailash tour is a long & strenuous journey starting with an early morning hike to Zuthulphuk from Dirapuk for about 22 km. It takes around 8-9 hours to reach, covering Dolma La Pass at a height of 5860 meters above sea level. This is the highest point of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra route.

Throughout the circumambulation of the Kailash Parvat, you will encounter amazing altitude changes, trekking from 4600m to 5650m. The views that await us are out of this world; with nothing preventing your eyes from reaching the horizon, you can now see the majestic Himalayas, wild Tibetan plateau, and wildlife, including antelopes, at this height.

At walking distance from Mt.Kailash is the Dirapuk Monastery, where we find the meditation cave of Milarepa – a saint whose life philosophy was simple living and high thinking. This monastery, which is over a thousand years old, has many ancient Buddhist artefacts and relics.

The trek around Adi Kailash Yatra is a physically demanding hike, and the altitude means regular rest days should be taken during the kora. Walk slowly and take long breaths. The trail crosses glaciers, which might sound dangerous but they are simple to walk over. After finishing the Parikrama, we head back from Darchen & drive back via same way Saga-Kerung and, cross the Nepal–China border, and arrive in Kathmandu ending the Kailash trip.

This trip to Kailash mansarovar is an adventure that's as much a physical challenge as it is a spiritual journey — sharing it with Tibetans pilgrims, meditating with or listening to renunciant monks chant in chapels full of centuries-old murals, striking up conversations with mendicant yogis. This Kailash Mansarovar tour transports pilgrims to an earlier century.

Despite all the hardships, there is something about this Kailash yatra package that makes it a lifetime experience. Call it the spiritual importance, the natural beauty, or your own sense of achievement – the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra has been a dream pilgrimage for everyone who feels that this mountain is calling him. No matter what part of the world he belongs to, he/she simply wants to reach ‘THE CENTER OF THE WORLD.’ For a personalized Kailash Parvat yatra Itinerary in 2025 and 2026, please fill in the contact details on the contact page, and additional information shall be provided to you.

What Are The Main Attractions of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra Package?

Mount Kailash

The Kailash Tatra Trip's main attraction is the mountain Kailash, which is considered sacred for Hindus, Buddhists, Jains, and Bons. This mountain, with an elevation of six thousand, is considered to be the actual physical image of the holy Mount Meru. No one has climbed this one because it is against the religion and has a pyramid shape. The place is considered to be the abode of Lord Shiva and the meditation cave of Milarepa, a famous Tibetan yogi. The mountain is very sacred, and thousands of pilgrims and trekkers walk around the base doing the kora, a rigorous trek. Above all, one can meditate before the beautiful vertical face of rock and ice on the northern side of Kailash.

Manasarovar Lake

Manasarovar Lake, at an elevation of 4,550 m, is one of the highest freshwater lakes in the world and of great spiritual importance. A beautiful blue lake that looks like an oasis in the arid landscape. According to Hindu mythology, it is created by Brahma; drinking water out there or taking a bath is believed to wash away all the sins. In the Buddhist religion, this was a legendary lake, Anavatapta, where Maya is believed to have bathed before the lord Buddha was born. There are monasteries on its shore and excellent views over Mt Kailash. Most pilgrims do a parikrama (circumambulation) by vehicle, which adds up to around 90 km of track.

Dirapuk Monastery

Dirapuk Monastery is one of the most significant attractions that you visit during Kailash Parvat yatra, as this age-old monastery gives the closest and most coveted view of Mount Kailash's north face. It is believed that Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava) had mediated here at this site, and his footprint can still be seen embedded in a rock. The monastery also holds precious Buddhist artifacts; thangkas (Tibetan Buddhist Paintings) can often be viewed within the monasteries. Apart from the above summoning elements for trekkers, staying here provides time for acclimatizing to further elevation and a tougher trek up to Dolma La pass (5,600 m). Surrounded by jagged surreal beauty and occasionally, if fortunate, then chance encounters with wildlife. Night halts here also provide an excellent opportunity to watch the mesmerizing sunset on Mount Kailash's north face.

Zuthulphuk Monastery

Zuthulphuk Monastery, at an elevation of 4,670 meters, is the final monastery on the kora before our return to Saga on our Kailash parvat Tour. It was associated with Milarepa and has a cave where he is reputed to have meditated and performed miracles. The Tibetan name means “cave of miracles,” referring to these legends. After the tough climb over Dolma La Pass (5,630 meters), Zuthulphuk has better accommodations for those weary-legged than seen at the monasteries earlier during this trek.

Dolma La Pass

Dolma La Pass, situated at an astounding 5,650 meters above sea level, is the highest and most difficult point of the Kailash Kora. Beyond being a physical challenge, though, Dolma La is an incredibly powerful spiritual experience for those on pilgrimage Adi Kailash Yatra. The climb up to Dolma La is steep and strenuous; it’s common for pilgrims to undertake this section in the early morning hours in order to pass over the heights before weather patterns change in the afternoon. Upon reaching the top of Dolma La, you’ll be greeted by billowing prayer flags and extraordinary views of Himalayan ranges that spread out before your eyes. Many pilgrims make offerings or perform certain rituals at this high point along the journey. Descend from Dolma La to Gauri Kund: a lake that inhabits a presence linked with Parvati from Hindu mythology.

Mt Kailash Yatra From Nepal

Tarboche and Yama Dwar

Tarboche, a short drive from Darchen, is renowned for its enormous prayer flagpole and marks the trailhead of the Kailash Kora. Every Saga Dawa (the fourth month of the Tibetan calendar), the pole is lowered and then re-erected. This event attracts pilgrims from all over Tibet. Yama Dwar, which means “The Gate of the Lord of Death,” is located near Tarboche. It is represented by a simple chorten (Buddhist wayside shrine), which pilgrims pass before entering Kailash’s sacred domain. Here, blessings are often gathered in preparation for what lies ahead on this demanding circumambulation. At this spot, you will get one of your first great views south towards the southern face of Mount Kailash, as well as a view down the valley.

Kailash Glaciers

The glaciers of Mount Kailash are not part of the traditional kora, but they make for a mighty and magnificent adjunct to the pilgrimage if you have the time and energy. Towering at 5,200m and 5,700m, respectively, the glaciers feed into three of Asia’s most fabled rivers – Indus, Sutlej, and Brahmaputra. It is an arduous trek that requires total acclimatization. We’ll observe wildlife such as chiru (Tibetan antelope) and wild yak in a high-altitude wilderness Area.

Kailash Mansarovar Yatra Cost for Indians 2025/26/27

The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra cost for only Indian tourists costs around INR 1,95,000/- to INR 2,80,000/-. The cost difference can, therefore, be explained by the kind of packages and services that are provided. These may include transport costs within Nepal and Tibet, lodging, food, guiding, and necessary permits.

The luxurious packages may include better rooms and transport. These include factors such as seasonality, group size, and the specific course that the travelers will take. We provide the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra lowest cost possible for the Indian Pilgrims. However, it should be mentioned that this price can be modified with reference to the current economic situation, fuel prices, and legislation.

Kailash Mansarovar Yatra 10 days Cost For Nepali 2025/26/27

Adi Kailash Yatra's cost for Nepali pilgrims is usually around NPR 150,000. It also varies, but it is less than what Indian pilgrims have to pay as they have a longer distance to travel and different permit procedures.

The 10-day Kailash Yatra Package generally includes transportation from Kathmandu to the Tibet border and within Tibet, accommodation, meals, guide fees, pilgrimage supporting crew member(s), and all necessary permits.

The price of the package may vary slightly depending on your tour operator as well as the time of your travel and group size.

Starting the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, you will travel by bus from Kathmandu to the beautiful mountain region, where you will stop at Trishuli Bazaar for lunch. The 6-hour drive to Dhunche provides a pleasing view over the green valleys and the terraced fields. When arriving in Dhunche, take lunch, go on a sightseeing tour of the town, and visit the monastery. The evening is spent in the comfortable lodge to rest before the next day's tour.

The second option to start the mount kailash tour is to take a scenic drive directly to Syabrubesi from Kathmandu in about 8-9 hours. You will follow the same trail as Dhunche but will go up to Syabrubesi, approximately a 20-minute drive from Dhunche. This Kailash trip route passes through Rhododendron and the villages like Bharkhu and Thulo Bharkhu. After reaching Syabrubesi, eat lunch at a local restaurant and have some leisure time visiting the town, famous for its beautiful scenery and a gateway to treks. Kailash Mansarovar Yatra continues with a thrilling drive to the calm and beautiful Manasarovar Lake. This journey stretches to about 450km and will take an estimated 6 to 7 hours. The scenery you see as you move up and down this beautiful route is arguably among the most beautiful you will ever come across. The view of the changing colours, from the vegetation greens to the rough physiographic features, is a sight to behold. Thus, the drive is always interesting.

After reaching the shore of Manasarovar Lake, you can enjoy the calmness and serenity that holds religious significance. A view of the lake surrounded by mountains is a beautiful sight due to the clear water. Here, one can draw spiritual water, a practice most visitors to the shrine consider very special. It is said that this water has some sanctity and brings nothing but harmony and blessings to anyone who drinks it.

Subsequently, you will proceed for a drive and Parikrama around the circumference of the holy Kailash Mansarovar Lake. This three-hour, ninety-kilometre ride lets you see the lake from different angles, all delightful in their ways. Parikrama is a pious exercise; those who move around the temple in Parikrama are said to wash their souls to come nearer to divinity. You will relax and spend the evening at Mansarovar Lake Side Lodge.

It is important to keep your energy levels up for this segment of your hike; therefore, eat a well-balanced meal for breakfast and lunch.

Late in the afternoon, you can drive a one-hour drive to Darchen, 35 kilometres away, through the beautiful Tibetan landscape. Observe magnificent scenes and take time for prayers and introspection concerning the religious aspect of the trip. When you get to Darchen, you will be accommodated in a dormitory-sharing guest house where you will rest, meet people and have a nice dinner after a day filled with spiritual and natural experiences.

At 10:00 am, the tour starts with a relatively short ride to Tarboche, the starting point for Yama Dwar. Hence, it is worshipped as the gate to the holy Kora, a spiritual tour around Mt. Kailash. From here, we have to walk 12 kilometres to Dirapuk, which takes 5-6 hours.

As you proceed through the difficult slopes of the Mount kailash Kora route, what you are destined to see at the Kailash North face will dwarf everything else and leave you in awe. Those who do not wish to do the trek can return to Darchen and wait for the groups to arrive from the Parikrama.

Meal-wise, you will be provided with breakfast in Darchen before the start of the journey and a packed lunch; dinner will also be served when you reach the campsite. Regarding meals and lodging, the travellers on the trek will be put up in basic mud houses on the Kailash Parvat Parikrama route, thus offering a raw experience. Otherwise, those in Darchen will be provided with a dormitory guest house so that you are comfortable as you await the other part of this spiritual journey.

The Mount Kailash Kora starts at 7:00 am from Dirapuk and heads to the challenging Dolma La Pass, which includes a steep climb to 5700m. This pass is the highest point of your 10 days kailash mansarovar tour Itinerary.

The narrow and steep road requires a lot of energy and determination to overcome the many barriers. Leaving Dolma La, the trail goes down to Gaurikund, where one can take a break in the calm and proceed to Zuthulphuk along the river.

However, during this challenging kailash yatra Parikrama, the most important thing is to maintain energy. There is breakfast for the morning climb and a packed lunch for the rest of the steep climb. When people get to Zuthulphuk in the evening, they rest in the lodge in the Tibetan wilderness.

Here, one gets a sense of comfort, which fosters the soul after the change phase to prepare for the next phase. Whether it is the end of the Mount Kailash Parikrama or waiting for companions at Darchen, each stride intensifies the spiritual bond with the territory, adding to the spiritual well-being amidst the harshness of Kailash.

Best Time To Go For The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra

Kailash Yatra is a pilgrim tour one might take in his lifetime that is spiritually rewarding and naturally enchanting. While you plan your pilgrimage from Nepal, the time of the year you choose is very important in ensuring you realize a safe and fruitful journey. Among all seasons, Spring (April to June) and Autumn (September to October) are ideal for this divine Kailash pilgrimage because of the favorable environmental conditions and the availability of the trail.

Spring (April to June)

Mount Kailash Tour looks beautiful in spring, and hence it is recommended to undertake this journey in spring. When the snow thaws, the paths open up, and one can see green vegetation and other vegetation types. This season, the temperature is relatively moderate, with average daytime temperatures ranging between 10°C to 15°C (50°F to 59°F).

Some nights may be cooler and may go down to around -5°C to 0°C (23°F to 32°F). The weather conditions do not hamper the physical activities such as trekking, thus making the pilgrims fully devoted to the spiritual environment and the natural beauty.

Autumn (September to October)

Another appropriate time is to book the Kailash Parvat tour package for autumn season. After the monsoon rains, the air is fresh, the breeze cool, and the surroundings are green and refreshed. The climate of this period is favorable, like spring, and the average temperatures in the daytime vary from 8°C to 12°C. Although the weather remains fairly constant and the views of Kailash Parvat and Lake Mansarovar are good at this time, it is preferred by many pilgrims.

Why Spring and Autumn?

Weather Conditions: Autumn and spring are more favorable in terms of weather and can exclude such potentially critical factors as rains, landslides, and frost, characteristic of other seasons.

Trail Conditions: The trails during both in Nepal and Tibet  are also easier and safer compared to the winter and monsoon seasons because of less snow and mud. This makes the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra experience much more enjoyable than any other travelling session.

Scenic Beauty: This is the best time for the region's natural beauty to blossom. During spring, the flowers and greenery also make the atmosphere calm and peaceful, while in autumn, there are clear and haze-free visions of the royal and pious scenes.

Kailash Pilgrimage Jeep Tour from KTM

What If I Trek During Off-Seasons?

Booking the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra package for off-season should be done only with proper planning and preparation. Generally, monsoon and winter fall under the off-season treks, which feature vibrant nature, green ecosystems, etc. However, they do feature some harsh environmental conditions, making it challenging to do this trek.

Monsoon Season (June and August)

Nepal and lower Tibet are characterized by heavy and continuing rainfalls in the monsoon period. This can transform the ordinarily beautiful and calm trails into dangerous and slippery paths. The weather conditions are characterized by dense fog, which greatly hinders visibility and makes the movement quite perilous at this time of the year.

Crossing rivers and streams along the way creates problems to navigate through. Furthermore, the wet conditions also make it a favorite place for leeches and insects, which make a traveler uncomfortable, besides posing a health risk.

When the muddy ground becomes slippery, it poses a lot of danger since people are likely to slip and fall. Tributaries caused by the monsoon can cause landslides that choke paths, a nightmare for trekkers. Transport to the trek's starting point can also be delayed or canceled due to blocked or damaged roads. The humid conditions can lead to respiratory infections and many other illnesses, making the trek even more challenging.

Under these circumstances, the Kailash tour package Booking for Monsoon seasons is generally not advised during the monsoon season from June through September. The disadvantages of undertaking the pilgrimage during this season include but are not limited to heavy rainfall, poor visibility, and difficult terrains that make up the pathways to the sacred shrines, making it very dangerous for any pilgrim to undertake the pilgrimage.

Winter Season (Late October to Early March)

Winters are extremely cold in the regions of Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar route, and the temperature is far below the freezing point, particularly in the higher altitudes. Trails used by the animals can be obstructed by snow and ice hence making it slippery for the animal to maneuver. Due to the short days, daylight time will be even less to complete the trekking implying longer durations. Some of the passes could be blocked with snow, especially during winter hence the access to some parts of the route is restricted.

In extreme cold, health conditions such as hypothermia and frostbite are realized when one is exposed to cold for a long time. The amount of snow that falls also increases, and this could lead to the formation of ice falls, especially in regions with hills. Cold temperatures increase the symptoms of altitude sickness, and since the trek is at a high altitude, it is even harder. Also, there will be fewer establishments along the trekking trail as many teahouses and lodges may be shut during the winter season, restricting the available services.

Under these circumstances, winter is the least suitable for the Kailash trip. Due to the effects of the weather, winter is not a favorable season to undertake the pilgrimage as it is characterized by extremely cold, heavy snow that can trigger avalanches. This means that the chances of a pilgrim getting into trouble multiply as there are no support facilities, and the journey becomes a risky and complicated one.

Difficulty Level of The kailash Parvat Yatra

The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is one of the toughest pilgrimages one can undertake as it also demands the strength of the mind. Located in the western part of the Tibet Autonomous Region, People's Republic of China, Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar are important pilgrimage shrines for Hindus, Buddhists, Jains, and Bon religion people.

The Kailash Yatra trip entails crossing through steep slopes, steep inclines and declines, and ever-changing weather conditions, which makes it one of the toughest pilgrimages in the world. Despite the challenge, many people do the Yatra yearly because they believe in and want to be blessed.

This Adi Kailash yatra pilgrimage trip is very demanding because of the high altitude, which is sometimes too high for some pilgrims. From Kathmandu, Nepal, the pilgrimage route gradually rises to altitudes of over 5000 meters. Ama is a severe risk; most pilgrims develop symptoms of acute mountain sickness, including headache, nausea, dizziness, and fatigue. Practising proper acclimatization is essential on the Kailash Mansarovar tour, spending 2-3 days in Kathmandu or any other lower altitude place is advised before starting the trek. Also, bringing medication for AMS and ascending gradually can reduce the effects of this sickness.

The fourth and most significant issue is the Kailash Parvat trip's physical aspect associated with moving from one location to another. The circuit around Mount Kailash, called Kailash Kora, is a 52-kilometer one that takes nearly three days on foot. It is an irregular track with a lot of rocks, and most of the time, it is covered with ice and requires one to be fit when climbing.

Pilgrims should be ready to walk for many hours and experience the Tibetan plateau's unfavorable conditions. It will be ideal if one starts practicing physical training, which entails cardiovascular activities, strength building, and endurance activities several months before the Kailash trip.

Although the show may be simple, the reception that the local people accorded to the family is heartfelt and gives one a spiritual uplift.

Food Options During The Kailash Yatra Tour

During the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, many food facilities are available for visitors per their choice and requirements. As the 10-day Kailash Trip progresses, we can find different cuisine variants in higher regions. Nepal to Kailash Journey

Adventure Altitude Treks exceeded my expectations for the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra. Being an Indian traveler, I was a little hesitant to start from Nepal, but their team made it so easy. The details and support that they provided before the trip were awesome. It really prepares us for what is coming up. We had a nice-paced itinerary with enough days for acclimatization. They were superb in crisis management as one of my other co-passengers fell ill, and they managed it so well. Their insights into the spiritual knowledge of our guide were amazing, which kept me more connected throughout this pilgrimage tour to Western Tibet.
