Introduction To Short Manaslu Circuit Trek - 7 Days

Manaslu Circuit Trek is a famous adventure in Nepal that combines the best in natural beauty with cultural riches & pure adventure. It traditionally takes 14 to 18 days to walk around the world’s eighth-highest mountain, Mt. Manaslu (8,163m). However, we’ve designed a Manaslu Circuit Trek Nepal 7 Days for people with less time or those just wanting a taster of teahouse trekking and speed hiking.

The Manaslu Circuit Short Trek is very physically challenging. It requires all participants to be in excellent physical health as well as already acclimated to high altitude trekking experience before signing up for this trip. After a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Dovan, you’ll note walks of several hours duration each day at variable elevations on this Manaslu Circuit Trek 7 Days, including tropical rain forests, bamboo forests, and alpine forests camping at altitudes over 4k meters crossing Larkya la pass 5106m.

This fast pace means we’ll have to hike between 25-30 kilometres per day, between elevations of 930 and just over 5,000 metres. We won’t be running but speed hiking the entire time on 7 Days Manaslu Trekking. At this pace, you can cover more ground in much less time, which is necessary as we’ll be completing the Fast Manaslu Circuit Trek and Hiking in only 7 days. However, not only will you be travelling at a rapid pace but also at extreme altitudes where there is an increased risk of getting altitude sickness if proper safety precautions are not taken.

Not to worry, though – everything feasible has been done to minimise these risks on Restricted Area Manaslu Circuit Trek– our staff members are all First Aid trained and WFR certified, so they will know how to safeguard against altitude sickness and what action to take should it arise. And consider the rewards: soon after beginning this Speed Hiking and Trekking To Manaslu Circuit from Kathmandu into Nepal’s alpine region, which reveals some of the best mountain scenery on Earth – including views of Manaslu (8,156m) and Himlung Himal (7,126m). You’ll visit Tibetan-influenced villages and century-old monasteries along your journey because it takes you through one of Nepal’s most hidden valleys.

What type of mountain is Manaslu?

Manaslu, at 8,163 metres (26,781 ft) above mean sea level (मानस्लु), is the world's eighth-highest mountain. It is located in the Mansiri Himal, part of the Nepalese Himalayas, in the west-central part of Nepal. It lies about 64 km (40 mi) east of Annapurna. The word Manaslu means "Mountain of the Spirit".

The Manaslu mountain's long ridges and valley glaciers provide feasible approaches from all directions, culminating in a peak that towers steeply above its surrounding landscape and is an imposing feature when seen from afar. Manaslu is also arguably known as the world's fourteen 8,000m (26,246 ft.) peaks and was first climbed only on 1956, May 9. The Japanese expedition team were the first to reach the summit of Manaslu, a team led by Toshio Imanishi and Gyalzen Norbu.

The region around Manaslu contains a variety of climatic zones, from sub-tropical foothills to arctic zones above 4,500 m. Richness in biodiversity and cultural experience as walk progress to Tibetan high alpine valleys surrounding the world’s eight highest Manaslu region, extensive views of over six mountains over 6,000 meters and Larke Pass (5,135m), an exposed pass crossing, are major highlights of 7 Days Manaslu Trekking

Altitude Sickness Considerations For Manaslu Circuit Short Trek

Rapid Altitude Gain: Days 3 and 4 see rapid altitude gains of 1,100 m and 860 m. If one ascends too quickly, there is a risk of getting mountain sick. It is generally advised to gain no more than an average of 300-500m per day once you are above 3,000m in order to get properly acclimatised.

High-Altitude Pass: Day 5 on Manaslu Circuit Short Trek Itinerary, when we cross the Larkya La Pass at approximately about 5,106 m, will be the most challenging day as we will be at a very high altitude with air thin and oxygen level will be quite low, being the highest point during the walk this is also the most exposed day for mountain related altitudes.

Descent: There are big descents on days 5 and 6. Descending is much easier on the body for avoiding altitude sickness but harder on the knees and needs good care while walking.

Recommendations to Mitigate Altitude Sickness

Acclimatization: On Short Manaslu Circuit Hike 7 Days you're going to be over 3,000 m (9,800 feet) altitude. Therefore, you may want to plan to stay an extra day to acclimatize.

Hydration and Nutrition: To aid in acclimatization, it is important to remain adequately hydrated and have a balanced diet. Skip the alcohol — as well as the caffeine — because they can cause dehydration.

Medication: Taking medications like acetazolamide (Diamox) to try to prevent altitude sickness is something you can do as well, but first consult with a healthcare professional. Don't forget that the medication should not replace proper acclimatization.

Monitor Symptoms: You are advised to look out for signs of altitude sickness, such as headaches, dizziness, nausea or shortness of breath on Short Manaslu Circuit Walking and Trekking Tour. If the symptoms do not improve with time, you will have to descend to a lower altitude as soon as possible.

Pacing: Gradual ascents with no over-exerts should be your ascents. Prevent you from feeling tired, stay rested and rest in tune with your body when you need to.

Professional Guidance: If trekking at heights, consider it together with a nice, experienced trekking guide since he might help in case of altitude-related challenges, take care of safety and help you out with accommodation.

SIM cards in Nepal are cheap (around USD 1) and can be easily bought at Tribhuvan International Airport or authorised shops in most of the main cities. Recharge cards are available between NPR 50 to NPR 1,000 and online recharge can be done by using websites like recharge.com or ding.com as well. Ncell has better connectivity in general lower-elevation areas, and Nepal Telecom (Namaste) works better at higher altitudes. To have connectivity all along the trek, it’s best if you have a dual-SIM phone with both networks.

Travel Insurance and Why It Is Necessary for 7 Days Trekking

Travel insurance is mandatory for anyone doing the 7 Days Manaslu Trekking. You are heading into a remote area and should have travel insurance to help cover and protect against something unexpected happening. A good policy will cover medical emergencies, trip cancellation, evacuation costs as well as lost/stolen gear or trip interruption. Especially with accidents or altitude sickness, if something were to happen, emergency rescues likely need to be conducted you would not want to pay out of your pocket. In this case, without insurance, it can easily cost more than $10,000. Travel insurance makes sure that if there are any mishaps, you have coverage, assistance and care – both financially and also support during what could be a very stressful period of your life. Make sure the insurance covers high-altitude trekking (above 5000m). Check all of the details & fine print and ask questions about coverage (download our guide below). Take your policy papers with emergency contact numbers with you while doing Fast Manaslu Circuit Trek and Hiking.

Best Time, Weather, and Temperature For Manaslu Circuit Short Hike

Short manaslu Circuit weather and temperature
Manaslu Circuit Trek Temperature and Weather

The best time to do the Short Manaslu Circuit Walking and Trekking Tour is in spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). During these months, you will experience the perfect weather with clear skies, mild temperatures and less or no rainfall. In spring, during the day, times temperature goes up from 10 degrees Celsius to 20 degrees Celsius or even more on some sunny days. The morning and night times are still cold, with almost 0 Degree Celsius at higher altitudes, while lower altitudes can be pretty warm.

In autumn as well, the temperatures are kind of the same, but the nights become a little cooler than those of spring. Monsoon season (June-August) brings heavy rainfalls, making it difficult to walk along muddy trails, and increased chances of landslides make accommodation facilities prone to risky areas, so it is not recommended for trekking; however, one can give it a try sometimes as landscapes in July seem very beautiful due to wildflowers growing on along lush green forests. Winter seasons come down with temperatures below freezing points, i.e.( December – February). It often becomes very hard above an altitude of approx. Above 4,000 meters during off-winter days because there seem to be lots of snow falls around that time. Nights at Manaslu Base Camp go below minus degrees so do other high places.

A scenic drive from Kathmandu to Jagat along the Prithvi Highway
Begin your adventure with a 6-7 hour drive through Nepal’s stunning countryside

Your Manaslu Circuit Trek 7 Days begins early in the morning, departing Kathmandu around 7:00 am. This is a 180km journey which takes about 6 or 7 hours, depending on road conditions. On Prithvi Highway, you will drive to both, views of Trishuli River and terraced fields. Gradually, the drive gets rough, especially after Dhading Besi, where you will take narrow tracks winding up and down hills passing through traditional villages.

En route, you’ll pass through Arughat, a bustling market town, and Soti Khola, a riverside hamlet that sits beside the Budhi Gandaki River. The scenery is of rolling green hills punctuated by thundering waterfalls and occasional glimpses of Ganesh Himal. The local bus journey is an interesting insight into rural Nepalese life as it makes regular mealtime and rest stops along the way for passengers to have food and drink breaks as well as leg-stretching opportunities.

You will reach Jagat (1,360 meters), usually around late in the afternoon at about 4 pm, where you will spend a night at a teahouse.

crossing suspension bridges en route to Bihi Phedi
Corssing Local Suspension Bridge While Hike  from Jagat to Bihi Phedi

Today's 7 Days Manaslu Trekking hike covers 25 kilometers of trek starting at 7: 00 AM today. You're always beside the Budhi Gandaki River as you ascend the trail through terraced fields and dense forests. Early on the trek to Shringi Himal, you will pass through Salleri and then to Sirdibas, with prayer flags and mani walls visible, testament to Tibetan culture.

The trek takes you through a suspension bridge, and the next larger village is Philim, a Gurung village with plenty of schools and monasteries. The trail passes from millet and barley fields and then into remote and bamboo forests. As you reach Bihi Phedi, the Valley sides become steeper, and there are waterfalls here and there. The path, although already worn, is narrow and rocky and must be passed upon warily.

Arriving in Bihi Phedi by late afternoon, around 4:After 00 PM, you'll find yourself in a local teahouse.

A trek to Lho with panoramic views
A scenic hike through Bridge and forests before Reaching village of Lho

Departing Bihi Phedi around 7:00 am, today's trek is nearly 19km long and takes us from 7 to 8 hr. The trail cuts through the Budhi Gandaki through steep valley walls in sections of the trail. The path also gets laced with mani walls, chortens and prayer wheels, and Tibetan Buddhist influence will increase as you reach villages like Ghap.

However, through dense rhododendrons and pine forests, a route wanders deep past beautiful snow-capped peaks. But the air gets cooler, and you get into the alpine zone. While not terribly difficult, there are some steep ascents here, but the trail is highly maintained and well-marked. You’ll travel past local herders and mule caravans loaded with goods going from village to village.

Reaching Lho by late afternoon, around 4:00 pm, you will see panoramic views of Manaslu. Ribung Gompa, more or less at 3,000 meters, is an important monastery located above a large village of the same name or Lho. Their houses are traditionally stone-built, and the lanes are narrow. Staying over in a teahouse here is where you really get into the local culture.

A Picture With The Team After A gradual ascent to Samdo
A trek With The Manaslu Circuit Trekking Team to Samdo, a remote Tibetan village

You will be hiking from Samdo today, and that will be a 21km total distance you’re trekking. You should expect to spend around 7 to 8 hours hiking to Samdo. The trail climbs gradually with nice views into the surrounding peaks. The Himalchuli, Ngadi Chuli and Manaslu landscapes are nearby, as well as Shyala village, which you will wander over.

Buddhism runs deep in the area, and the path is still bedecked with mani walls and chortens. Yak pastures and alpine meadows still bring you up to the Samagaon trail. That sparse footprint continues as you go higher, and there come treeless and more shrub areas. The hike isn’t strenuous at all.  Some mild inclines don’t rise above a steep count of 4.

These sections are occasionally 500 ft. down. You start uphill, and while the terrain gets rougher, over Samdo, you can begin to see the Samdo Larkya Glacier off in the distance. You’ll arrive in Samdo, a 3,860-meter-high Tibetan village, later in the afternoon. It’s the most remote and barren place on our trek. But the people who inhabit the area are not too far away from the Tibetan border.

Experiencing the stunning beauty of Larkya La Pass

Seeing these peaks at sunrise is the best part of the trek. From here, you descend through alpine meadows and follow into rhododendron forests, with the trail alternating between. At 3,720 meters, you will reach Bhimthang in the afternoon, and there, you will find a serene settlement. Bhimthang, or Plain of Sand, is a broad valley surrounded by towering peaks. Go to the comfortable village itself, at good teahouse accommodations, where you get a deserved rest.

Hike From Bhimthang to Dharapani

From the trail you enjoy a pleasant descent through pine and rhododendron forests and cross suspension bridges above the Dudh Khola (river). The path is by no means difficult, but after rain, some sections can be a little slippery; it’s a very well-marked course. Gho is passed along the trail further and stops at teahouses to rest and refreshments on the way will be made.

Thereafter, the route goes over terraced fields and mixed forests in the river valley, with a rather nice view. Warm surface temperatures will be indicated by a further descent from alpine to subtropical zones and return to populated regions. Reaching Dharapani by late afternoon, you will see the merging Manaslu and Annapurna trekking regions. Dharapani itself is 1,960 meters above sea level and is a very busy village with shops and better communication facilities.

Last Tea Before Ending The TRip
Lasat Cup Of Tea In Manalsu region before A scenic drive from Dharapani to Kathmandu

Your final day begins with an early morning departure around 7:00 AM. We would drive something like 8 to 9 hours from Dharapani onwards to reach Kathmandu or Pokhara, wherever we go through different terrains for the whole way.

The first stage is a rough road to Besisahar, often requiring a 4x4 vehicle. Views of cascading waterfalls, terraced fields, and traditional villages are what this section encapsulates: the rural beauty of Nepal. From there on, the road gets better, and the road is paved to Besisahar. The Prithvi Highway continues along the river Trishuli to Kathmandu over verdant hills and Himalayas, appearing in the distance as crops.

The route is quite an alternative for many travelers heading toward Pokhara, and it also gives them an opportunity to see the Marshyangdi River and the Annapurna range. The vehicle makes regular stops. Arriving at your destination by late afternoon or early evening, the trekking adventure ends.

While the solitude that the Speed Hiking and Trekking To Manaslu Circuit offers is like a dream come true for many people, it can leave you lonely and emotionally drained as there are seldom locals to interact with apart from your trekking group. Since there are not many trekkers either, not many will be sharing resources and assistance available on the way, which can add to the spirit of adventure for one person but disconcert another.

High Altitude Challenges

You climb to such high altitudes that oxygen level, in general, is low, and the absence of proper acclimatization may lead to altitude sickness ranging from mild headaches and nausea to High Altitude Pulmonary Edema (HAPE) or High-Altitude Cerebral Edema (HACE), both fatal symptoms if you don’t descend in time or acclimatize properly.

Prohibition of Solo Trekking

Nepalese regulations do not allow you to trek solo in Manaslu, you have to be a minimum of 2 trekkers and should be accompanied by a government-licensed guide. The reason is obviously safety, but if you love doing it alone, then that’s the sad part for you because you need to plan your trip ahead, find a partner to trek and acquire permits.

Mandatory Guide and Agency Requirement

Trekkers must engage a government-licensed guide and registered trekking agency.

Diverse and Rugged Terrain

The Short Manaslu Circuit Waking and Trekking Tour trail takes in mostly varied terrain, from low river valleys to high mountain passes, with rugged paths and steep ascents and descents. But certain sections lack well-marked trails, making navigating them difficult and demanding physical fitness to do so safely.

Unpredictable Weather Conditions

Rapid change in the weather for the region is possible — heavy snow or rain or a drop in temperature quickly at higher elevations. Trail Conditions can be trailed unpredictably, pitching away from safe trails and creating less-than-desirable trekking trail conditions; this is why relevant gear and contingency plans should be in place.

I can say that one of the best decisions is to go Manaslu Circuit Trek with Adventure Altitude Treks. It was the perfect adventure and cultural exploring trip where you were spoon-fed beauty around every corner. The guide was very knowledgeable about these trails and the flora, fauna and customs of the local people, and fortunately we did make it through safely. The meals were great and gave us the energy (from our daily hikes), and the accommodation was good. A great experience for anyone seeking genuine Himalayan trekking.
