Introduction To Kailash Mansarovar Yatra Charan Sparsh 15 Days

Charan Sparsh Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is a 15-day religious pilgrimage tour of religiosity and high-level trekking, in which the pilgrims have an opportunity to tap heavily into the religious energy of Kailash Mountain Tibet and Lake Mansarovar. The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra 2025 is religiously important for four religions - Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Bon - in which each of these religions places these destinations in the highest regard.

Departing from Kathmandu, Nepal, the yatra begins with pilgrims travelling to holy places such as Pashupatinath Temple to get blessings and purify their souls before beginning on the trek. The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra 2025 With Charan Sparsh begins with a tour over the Nepal green expanse to Kerung, Tibet's gateway.

Upon reaching Tibet, pilgrims travel over the broad Tibetan Plateau step by step towards higher altitudes with halts in between in towns like Saga. Pilgrims proceed closer to holy Lake Mansarovar, which lies about at an altitude of 4,590 meters. Pilgrims adopt rituals like Mansarovar Parikrama and holy baths in the unspoiled lake water, which cleanses sin from the soul and accrues spiritual merit.

The highlight of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra 2025 is Kailash Mountain Tibet Kora, the circumambulation of the holy mountain which is the terrestrial version of Mount Meru, axis Mundi. The trek covers about 52 kilometres and takes three days to complete, with the highest elevation being the Dolma La Pass at 5,630 metres. The best moment in this Kailash Mansarovar Yatra 2025 is the Charan Sparsh, or "touching the feet."

It is an exclusive 7-kilometre trekking trail from Dirapuk Monastery to Mount Kailash's eastern foot, where the pilgrims can touch the mountain physically and receive divine blessings and enlightenment. Pilgrims trekking will also get an opportunity to experience rich Tibetan culture with extremely old monasteries, centuries-old traditions, and numerous religious prayers under one roof. The Charan Sparsh Kailash Mansarovar Yatra 2025 is also a test of physical endurance for the pilgrims and a physical penance as a penitent spiritual pilgrimage and one that fills one with a strong sense of fellowship with the Divine and wonder at the grandeur of nature.

Begin your day with prayer and blessings. You are going to visit Pashupatinath Temple, a holy Shiva temple for Hindus, on the second day of the Kailash Charan Sparsh Tour. The ancient temple runs parallel to the holy Bagmati River, a World Heritage Site approved by UNESCO, where religious pilgrims in great numbers congregate. You can see sadhus in meditation on the temple side and see funeral ceremonies on the ghats, echoing the eternity of death and life.

From here, you will again proceed to visit the important Buddhist complex at Boudhanath Stupa. The massive white dome emits peaceful energy in the form of its golden spires and prayer flags that cover its shape. Religious practice at Boudhanath Stupa is walking in a clockwise manner by praying aloud and circumambulating the prayer wheels. Here Tibetan monks, who live near monasteries, help you get an idea of their religion and lifestyle of Buddhism.

Swayambhunath Stupa sits at the top of one of its rim hills, surveying the entire Kathmandu Valley spread below as it accumulates its nickname, the Monkey Temple.

Obtaining your Tibet permit and visa is a top priority today. To have your Tibet permit and visa issued, you must have your documents forwarded to the Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu. You can use this processing time by going out and doing a bit of shopping in some of the local markets and buying things like warm clothing and trekking equipment, as well as altitude sickness medications. The evening is completed by a Nepali cultural dinner when you get the opportunity to taste eating local food, such as dal bhat (lentil rice), before you retire to bed.

On the fifth day of the Tibet Mount Kailash Tour With Charan Sparsh, you will drive to Kyirong. The journey starts with an attractive road journey toward the Nepal-China border, which winds through mountain paths scenic valleys and traditional countryside settlements. As the route traverses the Trishuli River which features its turquoise river and dramatic gorges. The route features various small towns where you can observe the traditional way of life between Tamang and Sherpa residents who make their living through agricultural and commercial activities.

You will finally arrive at Rasuwagadhi which serves as the town where Nepalese and Tibetan immigration formalities occur. Chinese authorities perform comprehensive inspections that determine entry permissions to Tibet, so the application process extends over an unknown length of time. When immigration authorities grant your entry, you will find yourself standing within Tibetan territory at Kyirong (Gyirong, 2,700m), which sits in a mountain-surrounded valley as a tiny but beautiful town. Tibet's high-altitude environment delivers its initial impression at this point as the scenery transitions from Nepal's verdant terrain to Tibet's endless plains.

The guesthouse accommodates your arrival so that you can use the remaining day for rest. The gradual increase in altitude requires hydration alongside rest because your body must adapt to the changing conditions. In the evening, people in Kyirong can observe Tibetan culture through short walks, which reveal prayer flags fluttering in the air and residents wearing chubas and performing religious rituals at miniature stupas and monasteries.

Today, we will acclimatize at Kyirong to adapt to the changing altitude and avoid risks of altitude sickness. The high-altitude location of Kyirong at 2,700 meters makes it a suitable place for this purpose. Gentle exploration is possible in this town, where snow-capped peaks meet dense pine forests because the location creates a spiritual and serene atmosphere.

The ancient Tibetan fortress known as Kyirong Dzong stands as a must-visit in the morning since it served as an important trade and defensive structure. The Tibetan Buddhist influence becomes apparent throughout daily routines because you will encounter prayer wheels throughout the old alleys while the air carries the scent of burning juniper incense. The Kyirong Valley stands as a sacred location because Buddhist scriptures identify it as a spiritual site blessed by Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava).

The energetic individuals should take a short trek to the ridge where they can spot Ganesh Himal (7,422m) and Langtang Lirung (7,227m) while enjoying breathtaking Himalayan mountain vistas. The area shows a blend of Tibetan plateaus together with alpine meadows where yak caravans sometimes appear. You should spend this day doing gentle exercises alongside fluid consumption while building mental strength for what lies ahead in higher elevations. Your evening activities will include a preventive briefing about altitude sickness followed by information about the upcoming journey to Saga and Lake Manasarovar.

Day seven of Kailash Mansarovar Yatra Charan Sparsh Tour involves driving by road for six hours from Kyirong to Saga (4,640m) across vast expanses of Tibet's mountains. Passengers are taken across Tibet's Plateau, which is aptly referred to as "Roof of the World" by locals. Land becomes a rolling landscape, presenting a warm mixture of brown-golden rounded hills and dark blue sky.

The highlight of the day is a trip to Pikutso Lake, a stunning but lesser-known high-altitude lake. The blue water of the lake mirrors the surrounding mountain peaks as if floating on a canvas. The atmosphere is replete with silence except for the time of wind chapping outside or far-off calls of birds cutting through the stillness.

There are Tibetan nomads living the traditional lifestyle grazing sheep and yaks and putting up their harsh tent on the vast open ranges, echoing their earlier existence as pastoral too. On arrival in Saga, mandatory halt of pilgrims journeying to Kailash, you will choose a guesthouse to stay over in.

Saga is a trading town which brings together Tibetan, Chinese and Nepalese people. Domestic markets here sell yak woolen garments and Tibetan medicines and spiritual offerings. Relax and conserve energy, as it will be the best utilization of your evening before the pilgrimage to Lake Manasarovar, one of Hindu as well as Buddhist religion holy lakes. Your next Kailash Charan Sparsha Tour schedule is briefed below day-wise in detail.

  • Altitude/Time4,590m/ 6-7 hours

You will be approaching Lake Manasarovar (4,590m) after departing from Saga as it is the most sacred pilgrimage center in this scenario. The trek ascends through extensive Tibetan plains with stupendous views of high-altitude desert topography. Mayum La Pass (5,200m) also passes through your way while moving ahead, which is the best panoramic view point of the Himalayas summits. Air is thinner, and the breath is shorter because deep and relaxed breathing allows time for the body to acclimatize higher up.

During your trek to Lake Manasarovar, you have the deeper blue lake in front of Mount Kailash (6,638m), and it's something beautiful to behold. Holy Lake Manasarovar is holiest to Hindu and Buddhist and Jain and Bon communities because all of them have belief that the Holy Bath would purify sin and lead them to inner illumination. Pilgrims from the entire world come here for religious ceremonies as well as for parikrama (circumambulation) and meditation.

The lake mirrors all the hues of the sky, which, by surface reflection, provides a magical and vibrant environment. There is a little but important monastery on the shore of the lake named Tsu Gompa. The Tibetan Buddhist monastery of Tsu Gompa provides a suitable place to seek seclusion but not at the cost of religious observance. The spiritual atmosphere dominates the monastery since the tranquillity among prayer flags and chanting monks dominates the overall atmosphere. You will be staying in a lake shore guesthouse during your evening, where you can treat yourself to a starry horizon view since the high Tibetan plateau is not polluted with artificial light.

You will use the morning time of the ninth day of the Kailash Charan Sparsha Tour for ritual bathing and puja (prayers) at Lake Manasarovar, which indeed deeply inspired the Hindu devotees in spirituality. Cold as it may be, the ice waters are sacred enough to cleanse one of sins. Many pilgrims perform a Hawan (fire ceremony) at its banks, praying to Lord Shiva and asking for his blessing for their Kailash Parikrama. It is a setting of haunting mantras, burning incense, and demonstrating devotion to meditation.

After that, you will set off on a drive of about 2-3 hours towards Darchen (4,670m), the base camp for Mount Kailash. The terrain will soon become rugged and will allow one to sight some wild Tibetan antelope and yaks. Your final approach to Darchen will bring you closer to the mighty Mount Kailash, which stands above the horizon with its characteristic black, pyramid-like shape. The abode of Lord Shiva, revered as the most sacred peak amongst many religions, is not yet conquered, as climbing is banned on it.

Once you enter Darchen, you get settled in a guesthouse for the preparation of the trek the next day. Darchen is a small town that happens to be very important with just a few shops and restaurants meant for pilgrims and trekkers. In the evening, one can have a short walk to the Tarboch Flagpole which is an important site for Tibetan Buddhist rituals. Here, locals celebrate the annual Saga Dawa Festival, when Buddha is celebrated for his birth, enlightenment, and nirvana. Hence, rest well tonight because tomorrow, you will be starting a very difficult but rewarding Kailash Kora(circumambulation).

The Kailash Kora is one of the most sacred walks measuring 52 kilometres around Mount Kailash about to be commenced today. In fact, today is the first day of this spiritual and physical journey. Have breakfast early in the morning and then drive for approximately 5 kilometres to Yam Dwar (Gate of the God of Death), from where we start our trek only after crossing it as guests are not allowed to pass through that gate for karma purification. It's their belief.

The first section of 18 kilometres will be covered in around 6-7 hours, ending at Derapuk Monastery (5080m). The trail begins following the Lha Chu River, taking you through stunning scenery with a majestic view of the towering north face of Kailash dominating the horizon upon reaching Derapuk.

You can settle down and relish a tea-butter tea of Tibet or get energized by one and return to your hard-and-fast tents. And you, a once-in-a-lifetime thing, for in sight before your eyes of the northern face of Mount Kailash against the glory of fading light of the dying sun, things like that only can be had on a pilgrimage. The monastery grasps, precariously, the side of a hill; from this elevation, the mountain radiates in almost-divine light. Pilgrims usually spend the night of the day in reflection, chanting prayers or sitting quietly, absorbing the strong energy of the mountain.

This is an auspicious day dedicated to Charan Sparsha, the ultimate spiritual experience when the pilgrims try to touch the base of Mount Kailash's North Face. The journey from Derapuk to that sacred place is only about 5 kilometres for an entire round trip, but at altitudes so high and on terrains as rough as this, it demands a lot of patience and commitment.

The trail climbs rocky and uneven sections to arrive at the Footprint Point-Holy to Charan Sparsha, as it is otherwise known, it is said any human can get as close as possible to Mount Kailash. The north face of the mountain, with a vertical ice wall and deep crevices, radiates divine presence, and many of the pilgrims meditate on reaching this spot. It is said that from that physical location, one's spirit can experience an immense wave of energy. The devotees do prayers, leave offerings, and ask Lord Shiva's blessings before making their way back to Derapuk.

After this once-in-a-lifetime spiritual experience, you will start trekking back from the Charan Sparsha Point all the way to Derapuk Monastery, where you will settle and rest. You will then spend the remaining hours of the day in silence before the toughest part of the pilgrimage, which will be undertaken the next day through the Dolma-La Pass.

This is the most physically challenging day of the Kailash Kora. The journey begins early in the morning, climbing up to Dolma-La Pass (5645m), the highest point of the entire pilgrimage. Along the way, one does encounter the Shiva Tsal, a sacred place where pilgrims ritually leave behind their past sins by discarding personal items or tattered clothing.

Reaching Dolma-La Pass is a spiritual and emotional triumph. At the summit, multicolored prayer flags dance in the wind as pilgrims make offerings to Goddess Dolma (Tara) for protection and blessings. It is but a short walk down from the pass to the Gauri Kund (Lake of Compassion), a small turquoise lake where, according to legend, the Goddess Parvati bathed. Pilgrims fill their containers with holy water before moving further.

The descent toward Zutulpuk (4,790m) is steep and demanding, traversing rocky paths and glacial streams. After roughly 22 kilometres of trekking, tiring as it may sound, one will finally reach the Zutulpuk Monastery, where a small guesthouse is a most welcome sight for a good night's rest. This monastery is linked with Milarepa, the famous Tibetan yogi, who is said to have meditated in a cave there. While resting, one feels a sense of achievement, having completed the hardest part of the Kora.

The last leg of Kailash Kora, or the circumambulation, begins with a relatively easy 12-kilometer trek from Zutulpuk Monastery to Darchen. The previous day's effort had much more steep ascents and descents over Dolma-La Pass, whereas today, we shall trek along a gentle trail on the Bharka Plain, as the terrain slowly begins to flatten into civilization. The scenery remains unforgettable, with far, stunning views of Mount Kailash, rolling hills, along with Tibetan hamlets where nomads could be seen grazing their yaks.

Milarepa's Meditation Cave, a very sacred site, lies along the route. It concerns one of the famous saints and yogis of Tibet, called Jetsun Milarepa. The story goes that he spent many years in meditation here and achieved enlightenment, so many pilgrims stop for a while to meditate before finishing their Kora. As you get close to Darchen, realizations of having undergone this holy pilgrimage set in, bringing along with it immense satisfaction.

After reaching Darchen, hop on a vehicle for a long drive to Saga (4,640m). This route retraces the route across Tibet's vast plateaus, providing a final opportunity to appreciate the stunning scenery. Once in Saga, you will check into a guesthouse and have some time to rest after this strenuous journey. In the evening, perhaps a small get-together will be organized to celebrate the successful completion of the Kailash Parikrama and share experiences on the deeply spiritual journey that has just been undertaken.

On an early morning, the return journey to Nepal sets off along majestic, long Tibetan highways and mountain passes to Kyirong border. This journey also serves as a final opportunity to witness the beauty of Tibet as it offers picturesque views from high-altitude plains and yak pastures to distant Tibetan villages whose culture and tradition continue being very much alive. The journey offers opportunities for tea break stops at small settlements to interact with friendly locals.

Upon reaching Rasuwagadhi, the Nepal-Tibet border, you will be asked to undergo immigration procedures exiting China and entering Nepal. This can take some time due to travelers at the border crossing. Upon clearing, the journey begins back to Kathmandu from the desolate highlands of Tibet to the lush, terraced farmlands of newly-formed Nepal. The difference is stark, from towering peaks into thick forests and river valleys.

By late evening, you would be back in Kathmandu, check into your hotel, and enjoy a well-deserved rest. After days of high-altitude trekking and rough travel, the comforts of the city will feel refreshing. Take traditional Nepali or Tibetan food or walk through Thamel to experience the ambiance before retiring for the night.

Best Time for Kailash Mansarovar Yatra with Charan Sparsh

May to September, or early summer and early autumn is the ideal time for the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra. The climatic conditions at this time are just wonderful and the journey is comfortable and hassle-free.

Season: Summer (May to June)

  • Temperature: Day 10°C to 15°C, Night -5°C to 5°C
  • Clear weather and moderate
  • Melting of snow, and trekking trails open

May and June are extremely scenic with day temperatures of 10°C to 15°C. They are among the best months to undertake yatra as the snow melts and trekking paths become easy to identify. The blue open sky further adds beauty to Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar, and Charan Sparsh becomes spiritually energized.

Season: Monsoon (July to August)

  • Temperature: Day 8°C to 12°C, Night -5°C to 3°C
  • Rain at times and slippery roads
  • Less pilgrim

Monsoon time is characterized by rain from time to time, making the roads slippery and impassable for walk. Nonetheless, fewer pilgrims and leaves render the yatra during such times worth a look. Extra equipment and safety precautions are essential during this time.

Season: Autumn (September)

  • Temperature: Day 5°C to 10°C, Night -10°C to 0°C
  • Clear weather and settled conditions

It is equally a favorable month for the yatra with clear weather and settled conditions. Cold nights and mild breeze contribute to the ethereal beauty of the journey to such an extent that Charan Sparsh and other devotional activities are best suited here. Plan your 15-day Kailash Mansarovar Yatra in these months for a lifetime experience.

During the Kailash Parikrama, especially in Dirapuk and Zuthulphuk, our stay is at monastery guest houses. They are very basic with dormitory type of sleeping arrangement and minimalistic common toilet facilities as these places are far remote and extremely holy.

This journey provides luxury to simple basic stays throughout the yatra, unconventional rural homestays, and Dharamshala stays, which makes the spiritual & cultural experience of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra with Charan Sparsh deeper.

Meals Types and Facilities

During the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra with the Charan Sparsh experience, pilgrims are served pure vegetarian meals that go a long way to support their spiritual and physical well-being. A team of professional cooks travels with the group to make fresh and healthy food available every day, even at remote high-altitude locations.

Normally, you will be provided with breakfast, lunch/ packed lunch and Dinner along with tea/ coffee. The menu starts with early morning tea/ coffee followed by breakfast of bread with jam or honey, cornflakes or muesli or puri-sabzi or poha and similar stuff. Lunch/Dinner is more elaborate, consisting of rice/pulao/dal/bread like chapati etc., vegetables including green leaves & potatoes besides accompaniments like pickles/salads etc. as per availability/taste over that altitude for carbohydrates/proteins/vitamins etc.

For your satisfaction you can also bring with you some other regular eatable items like chocolates, biscuits, nuts and Bhujiya etc. as in-spite of good food it would be helpful some time for change and extra energy. Drinking water is a must so we make sufficient arrangements of pure mineral water as well as for making tea or coffee during the yatra.

How Difficult Will It Be To Complete Kailash Mansarovar Yatra Charan Sparsh 15 Days?

It is of moderate difficulty to undertake the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra and Charan Sparsh in a 15-day pilgrimage. The pilgrimage consists of trekking on strenuous and high-altitude land of 5,630 meters on the Dolma-La Pass. The pilgrims need to trek for several hours daily over rocky and uneven terrain, and this demands a very high level of physical strength and endurance. High altitude poses danger of  altitude sickness and acclimatization becomes necessary. Weather change, rain, cold, and harsh winds also add to the issue. Psychic strength is required to endure the long walk distance and barren terrain.

Visa and Documentation Requirements for 15 Days Kailash Mansarovar Yatra with Charan Sparsh 2025

If you're planning the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra from Nepal, you'll need a Chinese Group Visa and a Tibet Travel Permit. Because the region is heavily restricted, these are mandatory for entry. The Chinese visa for this pilgrimage is only a group visa, issued solely for the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra from Nepal. This is a paper visa, which every member of the group is required to get in order to enter China. Second, there has to be a Tibet Travel Permit issued by the China Tibet Tourism Bureau. There has to be a passport that has at least six months of validity left

For Indian pilgrims, the process is slightly different. Indian citizens can apply for the yatra through the Government of India's Kailash Mansarovar Yatra scheme or private tour operators or local operators in Nepal. If done by road or air through Nepal, the Chinese group visa and Tibet Travel Permit are still required. But if done through the Lipulekh Pass in Uttarakhand (India), an Indian visa and a special permit from the Indian Ministry of External Affairs are required.

Don't worry, the majority of tour operators make sure everything visa and document procedure-wise is handled so it becomes trouble-free.

    Challenging but Worth Every Step

My experience with Adventure Altitude Treks was fantastic. The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra was well organized and Charan Sparsh of Lord Shiva was the highlight of yatra. Trek is tough but support from team make it doable. Only down side is in some guest houses facilities are very limited but can expect that in such remote areas. In all, life changing journey which will be remembered forever.

Trekking to Kailash Mansarovar was a dream come true and Adventure Altitude Treks made it happen. The Charan Sparsh ritual was the most touching experience of my life and the view of Mount Kailash were mesmerizing. The altitude sure gets tough but the team was equipped with enough oxygen cylinders and medical kit..15 days duration for this trip is perfect as it helped me acclimatize well plus the exposure to Tibetan Villages just adds so much to your overall journey. Would highly recommend this trek only if you have a strong heart and are a true adventure lover!
