Introduction To Kailash Mansarovar Inner Kora  Tour 10 Days

Starting the Inner Kora Kailash Mansarovar Tour for 10 Days is a personal opportunity for a deeply spiritual journey to the Tibetan region. This a carefully designed and well developed tour encompassing the Outer Kora circuit along with the Inner Kora circuit for a deep pilgrimage of Mount Kailash.

The trip starts in Kathmandu, which is the colourful capital of Nepal, and tourists pray in the important temples which are located in this part of the world, including the Pashupatinath and Jal Narayan Temples. It then moves overland through the Nepalese landscape to Syabrubesi and further to the border of Kerung and Tibet. While the expedition goes on, people travel across the huge Tibetan plateau; they see fantastic sceneries and get used to high altitudes.

One of the diversions is a visit to Manasarovar Lake, which is regarded as one of the most sacred lakes in the world. In this place, pilgrims wash away their sins and pay attention to the sight of the lake which lies beside the Kailash Parbat. It then proceeds to Darchen which is a starting point for treks surrounding the sacred Mount Kailash.

With a distance of 52 kilometres, Mount Kailash's Outer Kora is completed in three days. Pilgrims navigate through high mountain passes such as the daunting Dolma La Pass at 5,613 meters while visiting the Dirapuk and Zutulpuch monasteries deemed sacred. Amongst many stations in the Inner Kora - a tough, 34-kilometre trek- that takes people closer to the core of the mountain are some of the 13 Golden Chortens and Saptarishi Cave.

Travelers delve deep into Tibetan culture on the way, visiting ancient monasteries and intermingling with local communities. Ending in Kathmandu, participants take with them lasting memories of a mind-bending pilgrimage of physical challenge bonded with spiritual enlightenment.

How Is Kailash Inner Kora or Charan Sparsh Done in 2025?

Kailash Inner Kora, is spiritually profound as well as Charan Sparsh is one of the extremely physically demanding pilgrimage. While it is possible to complete in a day, this test is in no way an endurance test but a devotion one. The inner kora is different from the traditional three day outer kora of Mt. Kailash, having three distinct challenges that pilgrims must overcome.

Step 1: Trek from Darchen Town to Selung Monastery (5,020m)

The first leg of the kora is a 4.5 km hike from Darchen Town (4,575m) to Selung Monastery at an altitude of roughly 5,020 meters. It is a good warm-up before things start getting really tough later on and an opportunity for trekkers to acclimatize themselves further while gaining mental preparation for more difficult stages that will follow the next few days.

Step 2: Ascending to the South Rock Face of Mt. Kailash (around 5,600m)

Shortly beyond Selung Monastery, elevation quickly rises just above 5,300 meters along rough trails covered with thousands-year-old rock fragments. Reaching the base of the south face of Mt. Kailash at around 5,600 meters requires consistent pacing and careful footing as the trail surface is very uneven and challenging.

Step 3: Climbing to the 13 Golden Chortens and Saptarishi Cave (5,860m)

The most dangerous part of the inner kora involves rock climbing, where one can see the rope and Tibetan prayer flags along with pilgrims crawling. Once you are at this stage at 13 Golden Chortens (5,860mt), built by Drigung Til Monastery enshrining the thirteen monks, the challenges continue further to reach Saptarishi Cave, which is a natural cave located on a cliff face.

Step 4: Performing Worship and Circumambulation

At the 13 Golden Chortens, you have reached a place of deep spiritual practice. Here, you will worship Mt Kailash by touching it and circumambulating the stupas built in memory of the monks. This is an integral part of Inner Kora as well.

Step 5: Traversing Mt. Yinjiento/Nandi Pass (5,805m) and descending

The last part of the inner kora is to cross Mt. Yinjiento, or Nandi Pass, at 5,805 meters. It is a very steep descent from the pass down to the valley that will take you back to Selung Monastery. Many people find this descent difficult because it requires some mental focus as well as sure footing on a loose and sometimes slippery trail. From Selung Monastery, you walk back to Darchen Town and have completed the inner kora.

The road conditions vary from narrow and winding to free traffic sections; hence, caution is required. Immigration at the Rasuwagadhi border crossing is the ticket to the next world, that of Tibet's Kerung County. Lunch will be held in a local guesthouse in Kerung, where Tibetan food will be served.

The remainder of the day is thereby set aside to acclimatize to the higher altitude and explore the town that seamlessly mixes Nepalese and Tibetan cultures. Dinner will be at your accommodation, providing an opportunity to rest and prepare for the next leg of the journey.

Later in the day, you will head to Darchen, some 35 kilometers from here, which is the base town for the Mount Kailash kora (circumambulation). The short, about an hour driving distance leaves ample time to acclimatize and prepare to set out on the trek.

Darchen is a small settlement that has basic amenities because it's the point of gathering for the crowds of pilgrims traveling from all over the globe. You will have lunch in a local restaurant in Darchen, where you can taste some simple Tibetan food. In the evening, you prepare for the Inner Kora, also called the Charan Sparsh pilgrimage, down to touch the base of Mount Kailash. For this holy trek, one has to be bodily fit and spiritually ready. The first day of the Kailash yatra starts early in the morning after breakfast at Darchen. Then you set off on the hike to Dirapuk, 12 kilometers away-a hike that takes 5 to 6 hours. The track is good and steadily inclines with perpetually steepening ascents as you approach Dirapuk. From here you walk through the Tarboch Flag Pole, or one of the most important locations for Tibetan rituals, and Chuku Monastery, which is built on a hilltop giving out panoramic views to the valley below.

The view is that of a harsh land mass. The face of Mount Kailash North becomes ever more apparent as you walk towards your destination. Provided will be a packaged lunch for hiking, sitting on the pretty pavement, allowing you to rest and admire your surroundings. Dinner will probably be a simple meal; it would be a good time to fill your belly after a day of trekking. Reach Dirapuk. Staying at a simple guest house or monastery lodge here.

The trail is steep and rocky, and if the season is winter, it might snow. You’ll find the sacred Dolma La shrine glistening with prayer flags and prayer offerings at the summit. It is surrounded by mist, making it just that much more mystical.

After that, you will spend a short respite, and then you will descend to the Gauri Kund, a lake familiar from Hindu mythology. Descents are often steep and very slippery, requiring someone with good footing. At a rest stop, one will be provided with a packed lunch to be enjoyed after the trail follows the Lham Chu Valley, a verdant stretch of meadows and streams leading to Zuthulphuk Monastery to spend the night. A very humble dinner will be provided at the monastery guesthouse.

One last chance to feast one's eyes on the impressive Tibetan plateau landscapes before the journey continues. Roads are mostly well-maintained, and very uneven patches of bad roads can be found. Picnic lunch en route on this final relaxing outing.

Coming closer to Saga, the greenery tends to increase, and the Yarlung Tsangpo River winds itself through the landscape. After arriving in Saga, you lodge in a guesthouse that is quite comfortable. Dinner will take place in the guesthouse, offering a comforting meal after a long day's journey.

The roads differ between well-paved and rough ones, which are largely encountered in Nepal. Lunch shall be had at the roadside restaurant in Syabrubesi serving a typical Nepali meal. Best Time For Inner Kora Kailash Mansarovar Tour 10 Days

Starting the Inner Kora of Mount Kailash is a spiritual undertaking and a serious one that you need to plan properly. The time when to approach it depends on the following considerations:

Spring (May – June)

Spring is the best season for Inner Kora. During this time, the Temperature is mild enough, ranging from 5°C to 15°C in the day, but it can drop below freezing point at night. The snow will be melted, and you will have a clear path to walk around, the view of Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar with blooming wildflowers is just amazing. Moreover, there will be an opportunity to witness the biggest festival of Tibetans named Saga Dawa, which falls on a full day on the 4th to 6th month of their calendar, when thousands of pilgrims gather at the temple.

Summer (July to August)

Summer is when the daytime temperature rises above 20°C and the monsoon sets in. The trail becomes muddy and slippery. However, flowers bloom in this season. A smaller number of tourists trek in the rain, so one can enjoy solitude as well. But due to rain transport is affected sometimes.

Autumn (September to October)

Autumn presents another favourable season for the Inner Kora. The weather tends to be more stable, with clear skies and spectacular vistas of surrounding peaks. Daytime temperatures range between 10°C – 15°C, but nighttime is cold, and temperatures can drop below -5°C. The increased post-monsoon clarity creates pristine landscapes, making it a great time for photography and also spiritual reflections. However, towards the end of October, the temperature drops further, coupled with recurrent snowfalls, causing trail blockage.

Winter Season(November to April)

Inner kora is not recommended during the winter months because of extreme cold weather. Heavy snowfalls cause blockages along the track, and also temperatures drop down up to minus degrees, making it very hard for travellers or pilgrims to perform the inner kora of Mt Kailash. Very few tour operators offer tours during this time since most roads remain closed due to heavy snowfall; hence travellers need to avoid visiting Kailash Mansarovar during this season if they are planning for inner Kora.

Meals on Inner Kora Kailash Mansarovar Tour 10 Days

During the Inner Kora Kailash Mansarovar Tour, meals are served to keep in mind the requirements of trekkers. Given that we will be trekking and walking quite a bit every day, meals are designed to be vegetarian and to provide you with all the necessary nutrients and energy to help you through the journey. You will have three meals a day – breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Breakfast is usually simple with foods like bread or porridge. Lunch & dinner consist of rice, dal (lentils), and seasonal vegetables.

Meals are prepared by skilled Nepali cooks who accompany you on this journey, so not only is your meal nutritious, but it is also suited for high-altitude trekking as well. Accommodation through the tour comprises Guest Houses as well as Tents where you’ll have food in dining areas, which will help you bond with your fellow participants better.

For those with specific dietary requirements, vegetarian food can be arranged but please inform the tour operator when booking so that they can cater for any dietary needs. Also, bring energy bars, nuts and dry fruits to snack on between meals while trekking.

Eating during the tour is not just a biological need but an occasion to experience local culture and hospitality. You will generally eat as a group with your fellow travelers and local guides, thereby making this an even more spiritual journey.

Altitude Sickness Considerations on Inner Kora Kailash Mansarovar Tour 10 Days?

Beginning on the Kailash Inner Kora Trek that goes beyond an altitude of 5,600 meters (18,400 feet) needs some preparation to avoid altitude sickness. You may feel headache, nausea, dizziness and breathlessness.

Preventive Measures:

  • Gradual Ascent: Take a gradual ascent, which means that you allow your body to adjust to the lesser amount of oxygen.
  • Rest: Take regular rest days throughout the trek to help acclimatize.
  • Avoid Alcohol and Smoking: Don’t consume alcohol and smoke while you are in the mountains, as it dehydrates your body quicker and increases the risk of altitude sickness.
  • Medication: Talk to a doctor about preventative medication (like Diamox) if you want to be extra cautious and reduce the risk of altitude sickness.

If you are to take good care of yourself and make the most of this challenging kora, you must become familiar with what your body is telling you. Here are some symptoms you may experience.

  • Headache
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Dizziness
  • Fatigue
  • Breathlessness

If symptoms persist or worsen, descend to a lower altitude and obtain medical help promptly.

Travel Documents and Permits Needed for Kailash Inner Kora

Starting the Kailash Inner Kora involves a lot of ground preparation particularly with regard to travel documents and permits. As foreign individual travel is not allowed in Tibet, you will need to book a guided tour through a licensed Tibetan travel agency.

Essential Documents and Permits:

  • Chinese Tourist Visa: You must get a Chinese tourist visa from the Chinese embassy in your home country. This visa is valid for entry into Tibet.
  • Tibet Travel Permit (TTP): You need to have a Tibet travel permit issued by the Tibet Tourism Bureau. Your travel agency will organize this for you.
  • Alien’s Travel Permit: It is needed to visit restricted areas like Mount Kailash, and your travel agency will arrange it once you arrive in Tibet.
  • Military Area Entry Permit and Foreign Affairs Permit: If you are travelling to military-sensitive areas such as Ngari (Mount Kailash & Lake Manasarovar), you will also need these two permits, which the tour operator generally organizes, but it may take 10-15 working days or more.

Application Process:

  • For Indian Nationals: If you want to apply for a Visa, then Indian passport holders need to give the originals of their passports. Leave the visa and permit arrangements to the travel agent.
  • For Foreign Nationals: Your travel agency also requires you to send them scanned copies of your passport information page and your Chinese visa. They will help get the proper permits.

Additional Considerations:

  • Age Restrictions: Those between 12 and 70 years old may all be able to apply for entry permission to visit Mount Kailash and Lake Manasarovar. Tibetan authority has imposed strict restrictions on who can travel on the land, namely: For travel below 12 years and above 70 years people.
  • Processing Time: It typically takes 8-9 business days to process the Tibet Travel Permit. Starting your permit application at least 20 days before your Mount Kailash tour is good enough for processing and delivery time.
