Useful Info

When Is The Best Time For a Short Annapurna Base Camp Trek?

Like other well-known tracks in Nepal, the best time for Short Annapurna Base Camp Trek is during Fall and Spring

Autumn, which runs from September to October and November, is the most pleasing time to visit. Many folks enjoy it because the atmospheric conditions are exemplary in autumn. Fall is known for clear skies and good sight. The Annapurna area has enduring temperatures, making it suitable for walking.

Spring is the second-best span for Short Annapurna Base Camp Trek. Spring comes after winter. When you go for a walk during this time, you will see all the animals and plants coming to life after hard winter months. The young parts of grasses and flowers make forests and meadows look great. The meteorology stays good, and it's not too hot or cold. The sky looks great in spring, and we can see clearly, too.

You can go on the Short Annapurna Base Camp Trek at any time. However, winter and monsoon are less busy for travelling there or returning. Nowadays, the climate often changes and bad weather is more likely to happen. So, you need to prepare well before these times.

Flight trip to Pokhara

For the 7-Day Short Annapurna Base Camp Trek, Pokhara Flight Tickets can be booked online and through a travel agency. One of the most exciting outings that anyone can have is hiking to Ghorepani Poon Hill. The journey is in the Short Annapurna Base Camp Trek with a short 30-minute flight from Kathmandu. It is situated at an elevation of 2711 ft. and about 200 km from Kathmandu.

A flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara permits 20kg checked luggage and 5 kg carry-on luggage.

Many flights leave the domestic terminal of Tribhuvan Airport daily, flying about half an hour. The flight is beautiful, especially seen from the right-hand side of the plane with one's head out the window.

Altitude sickness

The Short Annapurna Base Camp Trek is generally on every hiker's travel list as this trek is one of Nepal's most highly preferred and beautiful lands. The treks in the Annapurna region are mostly over 2,500m with altitude sickness, a stealthy monster who creeps up on even fit-as-fiddles above that height (8,00ft).

Therefore, your most important considerations on the Short Annapurna Base Camp Trek should be avoiding altitude sickness and maintaining health. You're hiking into the slightly higher region where air pressure and normal breathing oxygen levels fall. Acclimatization is gradually becoming used to a new climate or changed environmental conditions. Most people who travel fast from low to high elevation require altitude adaptation.

AMS symptoms can be noted at elevations above 2,500m, like:

  • Increased breathing.
  • Frequent urination.
  • Restless sleep.
  • At night, altitude-related periodic breathing.
  •  Dehydration.
  •  Shortness of breath.
  • Extreme fatigue.
  • Respiratory failure.
  • Cerebral edema.
  •  Coma.

If your AMS worsens on your 7-Day Short Annapurna Base Camp Trek, you must take a few precautions to ensure your situation does not spiral out of control. If the condition worsens, you must descend and seek medical attention.

  • It takes our bodies time to adjust to the oxygen saturation, so walk slowly and steadily.
  • High-altitude hiking: At least one day of rest for acclimatizing is necessary, and you should climb as high as possible on the first day before resting low overnight.
  • Running, biking, jogging, and going to the gym are good ways to build physical fitness for your Annapurna base camp trek.
  • The best antidote is to drink water all the time.
  • Don't: Use warm water instead of cold, and avoid alcohol and tobacco. You should also eat a balanced diet to build enough strength for your 12-day hike.
  •  You can ascend to over 3000 m but must be completely acclimatized. If your body shows the first symptoms of altitude sickness, you must immediately stop and decide whether or not it is necessary to descend back down to a lower elevation.
  • Take Diamox on the journey—it is truly effective. In fact, you should ask your doctor whether it's a good idea.

How is The Drinking Water On the Short ABC Trek Route?

Trekkers, especially those at higher elevations than lower ones, need to stay well-hydrated and avoid altitude sickness on 7 Day Short Annapurna Base Camp Trek. One thing that might well concern him during the trip is a lack of hydration. Every day, your body needs 3-4 liters of water (including tea and soup) to keep it hydrated, but there is no water shortage in the Annapurna region. On the Short ABC Trek, you'll see tap and spring water all around, but it is not safe to drink these unfiltered. However, since 2015, the Annapurna Region has banned all the sale of plastic water bottles. You cannot buy one anywhere for your entire trip. Therefore, you have to bring your water bottle.

What Can I Do To Make Water Drinkable?

Here are different methods to make the water in the Himalayas drinkable during your Short Annapurna Base Camp Trek below:

Method 1: Boiled Water

But the simplest method for water filtration is to boil it. Since we are increasing altitude, water should be boiled for 3 min and salted before it is sipped. You can get cold water free in the teahouse, but boiled water costs about a US dollar per liter.

Method 2: Purification Tablets or Electrolyte Powder

Trekkers on the Short Annapurna Base Camp Trek can ordinarily carry purification tablets like chlorine or iodine. These tablets sterilize the water and make it drinkable. One tablet for one liter of water is sufficient. The tablets dissolve and turn into a drinkable liquid in about 30 minutes. However, the flavor of water purified with tablets may linger in the mouth.

Another alternative is electrolyte powder. Electrolyte powder also contains minerals such as salt, potassium, and magnesium, which your body needs throughout the trek. Therefore, it's a better way to sterilise water than pills.

Method 3: UV light Water Purifier/stripe

This is an easy, speedy, and ecologically sound approach to water filtering. It exposes bacteria and viruses to ultraviolet light from Steripen, effectively killing them off without affecting the water's flavor.

Electricity and Internet Service at ABC

Electricity Facility

Despite its unfavorable geology and weather conditions, the Annapurna region has also been able to supply energy and Internet connectivity.

Because electricity in the Annapurna Region comes from hydropower, you will find power everywhere along your route. But powering your device will charge you an extra fee. The common charging station is usually in the dining room. When you use power to charge your device, there's an instant surge fee (per single apparatus and voltage of each piece). It costs $1.5$—$2$ per device to charge a mobile phone.

Internet facility and service

While traveling on Short Annapurna Base Camp Trek, you'll need Internet access and a connection to communicate with family, friends, and business associates. Although Internet access is available anywhere in the Annapurna Region, because of signal quality and topography, WI-FI can be sluggish here or there. But you will have internet access at higher altitudes, and it's not cheap.

At higher elevations, the fee for WI-FI is NPR 300/$2.5

In the 7 Days Short Annapurna Base Camp Trek, NCell/NTC cellular service provides network and internet access. Such SIM cards are available in Kathmandu for $ 1 from any retail store or tech shop. If you buy data packages, your service provider's internet reaches the Annapurna base camp.

Short Annapurna Base Camp Trek: Essential Backpack Items

A trekker's Rucksack can also determine what level of experience a trekker has. A good backpacker is also a good trekker. One should have everything one needs on the trip packed in advance.

The aforementioned are some of the supplies you'll need on the Short Annapurna Base Camp Trek for 7 Days.
