Rhinos may be seen everywhere in Chitwan forests, but tigers of Royal Bengal jungles hardly show their presence. Additionally, bird watchers love Chitwan as it has about 650 species of birds.

Chitwan National Park is Nepal's first national park (the country's oldest national park) established in 1973. The vegetation and biodiversity of the park are unique and have earned it worldwide recognition as a UNESCO World Heritage site. The Chitwan jungle safari tour is undoubtedly one of the best tours in Nepal. This jungle tour lets travellers worldwide realise their dream of exploring the wilderness in a limited time. Hence, visiting Chitwan National Park's Jungle Safari offers a glimpse of the park's various animals, i.e., mammals, birds, and reptiles.

Take the elephant ride tour through the tall trees of the national park and the village of Sauraha. A 4-5 hours jeep safari tour works perfectly fine for people scared of elephant safari. It gives a very interesting snapshot of wildlife in a short period. In addition, there will be boating in a canoe, which lasts 40 minutes and is such a thrilling adventure. Your canoe will get you to within a few feet of the sunbathing crocodiles, gharials, and the countless birds residing on the riverbanks. Similarly to this, visitors can also join in elephant bathing. The jungle safari tour of Chitwan National Park allows adventure walkers to explore the whole forest of the Chitwan national park for about an hour or two.

Useful Info

Chitwan Jungle Safari Tour 2 Night 3 Days: Best Time to Join

The best time to join the Chitwan National Park tour can be divided into two main periods: September to November and February to April because the seasons favour the bird's migration. Various birds from different parts of the world fly to the wetlands in the national park. The research suggests that the total number of species of birds occurring in Chitwan is close to 550. Another peak season for trips to Chitwan National Park, followed by either jungle safari or birding, is from late September to May. It allows visitors to escape the monsoon rains. Below is the detailed information on how weather and climate will be on each season:

Winter (December-February)

Chitwan and Chitwan National Park are ideal places to visit during the winter season. In winter, because of the cold atmosphere and dry season, it is a good time to see nature with animals in the open. The period between January and February is when the local people cut the grass in the forest, which makes a huge difference in the animals' visibility. You will be in the park and, at times, be almost four feet away from the animals.

Autumn Season (September to October)

In Nepal, autumn (fall) typically begins in mid-September and lasts until November. The moderate temperature and the clear and cold nights of Chitwan will characterise the months of September, October, and November. On the contrary, the days in the fall are more pleasant than the days in the summer and spring. Thanks to the moderate climate,  you will easily be able to see the Chitwan nature during the fall period, with not much sweating, not much busyness, and hustle touring.

Spring Season (March to May)

Nothing compares to Chitwan during spring, and this is the perfect time to visit this beautiful destination with flowers and sun. However, in Chitwan, you might have to reconsider travelling during the Spring season again. March, April, and May have the minor lowest levels of humidity, but the temperature keeps growing from day to day until the climax occurs in the period from May to early June, which are the hottest days of the year. The animals are naturally found in the waterholes, rivers, and lakes with the intention of cooling themselves. Nevertheless, the days can get very sunny and hot, with the temperature that may reach up to 40ᴼC.

Summer (June to early September)

If you are thinking of taking jeep safaris in Chitwan National Park in June, July, August, and September, then good luck. The rainy season safaris are even more difficult due to the muddy tracks inside the forest getting flooded. Over and above this, Sauraha is submerged each time it rains, which is why many hotels cannot carry on their businesses. The animals are rarely seen in this weather, but the sponges are everywhere in this wet season.

How to Reach Chitwan National Park From Kathmandu and Pokhara?

Transportation facilities are included in the package, so you do not have to worry about going through the ticket booking process. There are many ways to reach Chitwan from Pokhara or Kathmandu. But in this package, transportation facilities included are a Tourist Bus Ticket to Chitwan from Kathmandu or Pokhara and vice versa, Pick up and drop off to and from the Hotel. Tourist buses to Chitwan National Park from Kathmandu are a popular way of travelling. With us, you'll ride in comfort, and there will be a break for breakfast and lunch. Tourist buses are equipped with Wi-Fi and air conditioning systems. Some of other Transportation options you can choose to reach Chitwan are as follows:

Travelling By A Public Bus

The public buses to Chitwan frequently leave from the New Bus Park in Gongabu or Kalanki. The buses depart every hour. It is the cheapest method of transportation. You can get on a 30-seater or a 14-seater Toyota minibus. If you want to know how locals get around by road, you can ride on the public buses. The public buses will not have air conditioning, and the aisles will be filled with luggage.

Travelling By A Private Car

The best way to get to Chitwan National Park from Kathmandu and Pokhara is by booking a private vehicle service. You don’t have to drive the car on hire as it comes with a driver. This price will be a little bit more than the bus station or a tour bus and will be based on the model of the car. If you prefer air-conditioning vehicles, then it can be arranged at a certain fee. It is a costly mode of transportation, but you will sacrifice the least for comfort. Besides, there will be stops en route for breakfast and lunch.

By Flight

The airport of Chitwan National Park is Bharatpur, a city that is located about 16 kilometres from Sauraha and 48 kilometres from Barauli. The Pokhara-Bharatpur route has only a single daily flight that operates daily. It will only take twenty minutes to fly directly from Pokhara to Chitwan. Buddha Air is the only airline that offers daily and direct flights from Pokhara to Bharatpur. You can board the plane at Pokhara Airport and land at Bharatpur Airport.

If you are flying from Kathmandu, reaching the Chitwan airport will take around 25 minutes. Meals On Chitwan Jungle Safari Tour 2 Night 3 Days

Clients' health is a first priority for us, so all the meal services are included in the package. This being said, the package covers 3 breakfasts, 3 lunches and 3 dinners. Please kindly inform us during the booking process of any specific dietary requirements or preferences so that we can make the necessary arrangements to meet your needs. You can go to some fantastic restaurants, for instance, the main street ones of Sauraha, if you want to.

Being a small town, the number of restaurants and food choices in Chitwan/ Sauraha is similar to those in Kathmandu or Pokhara. Nonetheless, there is a growing number of restaurants that serve food just the way you like it. One must try different cuisines in this zone, such as Nepalese, Continental, Indian, Thai, Chinese, etc. Restaurants are quite good with a view of a garden or a river.

The usual dishes on your Chitwan Jungle Safari Tour are probably going to be Dal Bhat and Momos, but if you go beyond them, you will have a chance to taste Tharu cuisine. The Tharu cuisine is primarily derived from vegetables grown in nearby farms. Such a form of delivering meals is not only ethical but will also reflect the local agricultural pattern. Among the Tharu dishes to try are Ghonghi (Fried Snails), Dhikri (Rice Flour Sticks), Sikarni (Sweet Yogurt Dish), Patushni (Rice or Legume Wrap) and Bhakka (Steamed Rice Cake).

Chitwan National Park Tour Permits and Entry Fees Requirements

If you want to enter the Chitwan National Park premises during the 3-day Chitwan National Park Safari, you will need an entry permit. Visa fee structures are different for foreign nationals, SAARC countries, or Nepal nationals.

  • Entry Permit for foreigners:  In the case of foreigners, the fee is 1500 Nepalese rupees (approximately USD 12) per person. This permit is a key that allows you to enter Chitwan National Park and its domains, for example, the 20 Hazari lakes and buffer zones, during the 3 day tour.
  • Visitors from SAARC countries like India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, etc., have to pay a fee of 750 NRs (around $6) per person. This is the same thing as the residence permit.
  • For Nepali citizens, the entry fee is Rs 100 (approximately $ 0. 80) for a three-day pass. The visitors wouldn’t have to acquire any permit to watch the elephant breeding ground within the park.

What To Wear and bring On Chitwan National Park Safari Tour

Wear colours that will make it easy for you to hide in your surroundings. Stay away from vibrant colours such as red, white, yellow, etc. Select blacks, browns, greys, and tan instead. This is because of two things.

  • First, you don't want the animal to be startled and to run away from you.
  • Secondly, you don't want an animal to see you and attack. Your best shot is to find your place in the crowd.

If you're an early riser or are going out in the winter, you must dress to be warm. The jeeps are open, and when they are in motion, it gets windy and cold. A windbreaker and a warm hat should be compulsory. During the monsoon season, the rain could last for days. Remember to have a really nice raincoat. And if you're wearing a raincoat, you'll still get wet. Always have sunscreen on you because the sun can also get scorching in the afternoon. Prefer a small sunscreen that can be kept in hand luggage. Also, take a sun hat with you. Along with that, taking a natural bug spray is also a must in summer and monsoon seasons.

You will have to bring one bottle of water per person, sunscreen, bug repellent, and a camera that has a good zoom lens. Your guide can also bring binoculars for you. Often, the animals are distant and difficult to spot.

Chitwan Jungle Safari 3 Days Essential Tips

Some of essential tips that you can follow on your chitwan Jungle trip are mentioned Below:

  • Wear Dull-Colored Clothing: Bright colours have great odds of frightening animals away, hence wear colours of natural habitat, such as khaki, green or brown colour.
  • Stay Hydrated: The jungle of Chitwan can be very hot and humid, so you might have to consume a lot of water on your safaris to keep yourself hydrated during the whole day. Keep hydrated well, besides the fact that dehydration can happen very fast.
  • Wear Appropriate Footwear: Carry a pair of comfortable, wear-resistant shoes or hiking boots with a good grip which prevents puncture of thorns and rocks while you are on your way. It is also necessary to put on long pants or trousers to protect your legs.
  • Protect Yourself from the Sun: As Chitwan is a hot area, the sun may be very bright, especially during the day. So put sunscreen every 3 hours properly and go along with a hat or a lightweight cover-up that features protection from UVA rays.
  • Carry Insect Repellent: You can expect a lot of mosquitoes and other insects when you are deep in the jungle, so having insect repellents around your neck should be enough to keep them away from you and possible bites and infections.
  • Bring Cash: In Chitwan, the ATMs may charge you for the withdrawal, therefore, you should have enough cash with you for buying souvenirs, tips, and other activities.
  • Pack Light: This trip will start with the backpack having only the essentials. You will feel at ease and competent with this.
  • Follow Your Guide's Instructions: The guide is very knowledgeable about the area and its animals, so you must listen to them and follow their instructions for you to have a good time in total safety.

  • Chitwan National Park is a place where you can see a variety of wild animals. Chances are you may encounter one-horned rhinos, Asian elephants, Bengal tigers (but this is very rare), gaur (The wild bovines), spotted deer, sambar deer, wild boar, various bird species like hornbills and egrets, crocodiles and many more.

  • For example, activities like white-water rafting, extra stay beyond 2 days can be offered as an additional option.

  • We prioritise animal welfare. However, elephant back safaris can be a controversial topic. If you have ethical concerns, discuss alternative ways to explore the park with your chosen tour operator.

  • Booking in advance, especially during peak season (spring and autumn), is recommended to secure your spot. However, some flexibility might exist during the off-season.

  • Yes, most nationalities require a visa to enter Nepal. You can usually obtain a visa upon arrival at Kathmandu or Pokhara airport. Visa fees and requirements might change, so check with the Nepalese embassy or consulate in your home country for the latest information.

    Affordable Chitwan Adventure

Adventure Altitude, Treks' Chitwan Jungle Safari, was perfect for budget travellers like me. Mr Rohit kept everything super affordable, but the service was terrific. The wildlife sightings were incredible - rhinos, elephants, you name it! The food was delicious, too. Highly recommend it for a budget-friendly jungle escape.
