The panoramic mountains, ancient monasteries, remote trails, ever-flowing Bhote Khosi and Imja River, and Khumbu Glacier are some of the prime attractions of this trek.

Here, we will put lights on why Everest Base Camp is regarded as one of the best treks in Nepal for 2024 and 2025.

Route to Everest Base Camp Trek

The standard route to Everest Base Camp starts from Lukla. To get to Lukla, trekkers must assemble their essentials for flight from Kathmandu and it takes around 45 minutes to reach Lukla Airport, also known as Tenzing Norgay Airport.

After reaching Lukla, the real Everest Base Camp Trek begins. On the first day, the trek is relatively shorter, averaging around 3 to 4 hours of walking. We will pass through several villages like Chheplung and Nurning before they are accommodated at a tea house in Phakding.

From Phakding, the next stop is Namche Bazaar. The trail leads through the green meadows and forested areas passing through Monjo Village. If you do not have trekking permits for Everest Base Camp, you can purchase them at Monjo Checkpost. It takes another few hours to reach Namche Bazaar.

Namche is a beautiful town located at 3440 meters above sea level with the pristine views of Mount Everest. After that, we push ourselves on a 6 to 7 hour hike towards Tengboche. Passing through the Sherpa Villages of Khyangjuma and Phunke Tenga, we will cherish the beautiful scenery of the surroundings.

As we push higher through the uphill trail, we will reach the gate of Tengboche Monastery, which stands there for centuries. The next day, we set off on a journey to reach Dingboche. But we must pass across the villages of Deboche, Pangboche, and Somare, from where we can cherish the views of green hills and valleys deep down.

The Everest Base Camp Trek is not completed here. We continue our trek towards Dughla and climb Thokla Pass at 4830 meters above sea level. The sharp winds and strong sun rays can be hazardous, so it's better to prepare in advance. Crossing the Thokla Pass, we find ourselves in the Imja Valley. As we hike higher, we will be walking through the Khumbu Glacier before reaching Gorakshep, the last Sherpa Settlements in the Everest region.

From Gorakshep, it is another 5 to 6 hours trek to reach Everest Base Camp. The trek is physically challenging, so we must buckle up with our trekking needs and essentials, including gears, food, and other supplies.

Upon reaching the base camp, we will be involved in sightseeing and then hike to Kala Patthar, early in the next morning. The magnificent views of the Himalayas from the highest webcam of the world is breathtaking. As we wrap up our activities, we follow the same trail to descend back to Lukla.
